FANCY MAKING A BAG!

THE ALMIGHTY BAG TREE

During Enrichment week we have been making bags with our own fabric trying to make it look appealing whilst having fun making it for future sampling.
MANUFACTURE PLAN FOR MAKING A BAG
1. Sew a 1cm seam allowance matching both the thin strip of the shell to the main piece of lining making sure the right sides meet (x2)

2. Press the seams open.

3.Sew the front and back together using a 1cm seam allowance along the side seams making sure they meet at the notches and then press open.

4. Place the base to match the right sides together allowing the notches to meet up and put your needle in 1cm from the top and finish 1cm from the bottom leaving space to sew along the longer side still keeping a 1cm seam allowance.(x2)

5. Cut at and angle towards the markings created by the thread that you have just stitched. Then place both longer sides together pushing all the fabric on one side avoiding it getting caught and sew from the start point to the end point. For the second time leave a gap so start from the first point and start at the end but stop in the middle leaving a space to pull the bag through.
6. Next step is to find both your shell pieces and place the handles inside the notch making sure they are straight and sew a 1cm or less stitch along the strap making sure its not twisted.
7. Then we placed right sides of fabric together and stitched a 1cm seam allowance down each side seam and pressed open.
8. Repeat the same process placing the base to match the right sides together allowing the notches to meet up and put your needle in 1cm from the top and finish 1cm from the bottom leaving space to sew along the longer side still keeping a 1cm seam allowance.(x2)
9. Cut at and angle towards the markings created by the thread that you have just stitched. Then place both longer sides together pushing all the fabric on one side avoiding it getting caught and sew from the start point to the end point. Instead of leaving a hole you stitch all the way down 1cm.

10. Place the bag inside the lining making sure both right sides match and sew all along the top of the bag 1.5 cm seam allowance and pull the bag through the hole.

11.Stitch the hole up with a similar coloured thread less than 1cm as close to the edge as you can.
12. Press the edges together flat making sure the seam meet so it has a crisp finish.
