SEEING THEM IN PERSON...

Our challenge today was to collect as many fabric samples as we could to use for future references for next year.We managed to look at quite a few and got a lot of swatches. I took a picture of the front of shop just in case I revisit then I can refer back to the image. Out of all of the fabric shops I visited I thought Biddle Sawyer's silks were the most easiest to get along with and gave us plenty of samples.

CAPITAL OF ENGLAND IS...

Me and all the other fashion students at the college got the privilege of going to London for the day for FREE.. yes free! After many hours of pain from excessive walking it was worth it getting the intricate fabric samples and gaining more knowledge on universities and design work that I will be aiming for in a few years time. The exhibition showcased such mind blowing work from origami to dyeing fabric all having a different quality and twist to their work. Today was a very productive day and I really enjoyed it feeling like we were all competing to get the most fabric samples and meeting designers of the future.

A QUICK GLANCE...

I managed to get hold of a few photos from today that haven't been edited( that's why there are pieces of equipment everywhere). The film was strong but certain things didn't work or seams were showing but I'll have to see if I can photo shop it out. It's a shame that there is various equipment in the shot but she needed to fit the whole dress on so she had to zoom out but we can problem solve and edit it to make it work.I really appreciate the time that Lizzy, Miiami and Jemma have put in today and produced a great set of photos for my portfolio.

ON SET...

Today I attended a workshop working with a stylist - Jemma Sawyer;photography student - Lizzy Kirkman and Model Miiami James to display my garment. It was a good way of communicating with different people and learning about how you would possibly change and alter things to make it work on set. I thought Jemma was extremely helpful experimenting with different accessories and applying the hair and make up. I had so much fun and can't wait to see what the final pictures look like.

MOOD BAORD FOR STYLING WORKSHOP..

I have gathered different images for hair and make up and ideas that I would like to use to display my model wearing my garment in a photo. I have ripped out magazine images and layered them up taking inspiration from their photo shoots and thinking how I could portray the same message with a lower budget. I could also change my ideas going with the opposite leaving the hair down and going very neutral with the make up. What do you prefer?

IN MY SPARE TIME...

You know I was talking about improving my drawing skills well I updated my book of treasures creating additional sketches using different templates. I got inspiration from various magazine shoots and introduced another Media of fabric interpreting it in different way portraying different messages.Even though I did a bit drawing a felt more comfortable with these because I got to combine drawing with collage.

HAVE I MADE IT?

Yesterday I received a letter from Vogue confirming I hadn't got onto the shortlist for the competition. I wasn't expecting to get good news anyway but it is practise and prepares me for university showing another thread of fashion that I have attempted. I am glad I applied and went through the process of waiting and wondering if I would make it and constructing my entries. The posh letter and envelope made my day I hadn't been given something that nice before.. looking on the bright side.

WANT SOME CAKE..

This weekend I had an idea of putting all of our dress designs on a cake as I strolled around Asda I found a Photo cake and managed to divide the icing into 14 sections with all of our classes designs on it. I bought it for the tutors and class to celebrate the great year we have had and a great way to remember it by. What I didn't realise was that the Asda lady smudged it by its the thought that counts.Right?

GOODY BAG...

On Friday night I managed to pinch a goody bag from the tables. There were various gifts that all the foundations degree students had made promoting their new businesses creating things such as: brooches; bags and bracelets which was a nice gesture. I thought it was a good way to show all of the younger years to see what they are in for if they take the foundation degree course. Also what was nice was they all related to their collections that they had shown during the fashion shown so it was easier to identify the designer. They are cute aren't they?
