PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN...

Back to college and I'm already settling down into my first unit as a second year. The unit is based on a sustained environment exploring ways in which we sustain natural products through art and design. Fashion is such a wasteful industry but now we are seeing the impact on which it is having on the environment and realising we need to recycle and reuse. The design principles which apply through our lifetime include:
  • Balance
  • Emphasis/Focal point
  • Illusion of Motion
  • Texture
  • Value
  • Scale/Proportions
  • Rhythm
Form follows function is a principle associated with the modern architecture and industrial design in the 20th century. The principle is that the shape of the building or object should be primarily based upon its intended function or purpose.

Sustainable design is the study of designing physical objects, the built environment, and services to comply with the principles of economic, social, and ecological sustainability.

Architecture has evolved to suit this criteria changing buildings equipping them with solar panels and grass covered roofing to save energy prices and usage making the environment a safer place.
