EMILY ROSE DESIGNS PIN CUSHIONS AND COAT HANGERS TO SELL...

As I had learnt about how to set up your business in college, I thought it would be a good idea to see what I could make to sell. I had a lot of spare time in the summer holidays, so I took the spare time I had and spent it creating pin cushions and coat hangers. I enjoyed this process as it kept my creativity going throughout the summer ready for university and it gave me a product to sell to potential buyers. I have made about £140 just selling pin cushions at £3.50 each and coat hangers at £3.00 each, which is a good start to put into my start up to then sell more products. These were sold to friends and family so the next step would be to ask shops to sell them in their shops or possibly sell them on at craft fairs in London. I am pleased with the final outcome and shocked to do so well at selling little things.

So if you want a pin cushion or coat hanger I can always make them on request!

ATTATCHING SLEEVES ONTO A PREMADE DRESS...

Before I moved to University I was on a mission to make as much money as possible. Then my Mum's friend came to me seeking my help as she wanted to change the straps she had to cover her shoulders. So what I did was make various samples of different ways I could insert and attach the sleeves and gave them to her to choose which she wanted. I then bought some chiffon from THE FENT SHOP and created both identical sleeves. It took me a couple of days to get back into the sewing spirit but this is the final product.
Do you think I did a good job?

GO GB...

I know I haven't blogged in a while but I bumped into a fellow blogger and I was reminded to start blogging again.
I have recently just move to London as I am studying Fashion Textiles at London College of Fashion. I had moved here 3 days ago and I have already:
  • Been to Oxford Street.
  • Had a go at THE CASTLE'S pub quiz.
  • Witnessed the Olympic and Paralympian parade through Trafalgar Square.
  • Been to Shepherd's Bush Market and found out where I will study for the next 3 years.
The Costume Store where I am staying is nice and new even if the Internet is a little bit SLOW!

It's great to be a part of History.

MID CHESHIRE EXHIBITION...

Mid Cheshire college has been holding an exhibition throughout this week and one of my garments that was shown in the college's fashion show has been selected to be displayed in the exhibiton. There were a range of different year groups throughout fashion alongside: Art & Design; Graphics, Ceramics and Photography. I think the display looked professional and appeared striking when I first walked in.

MY FINAL COLLECTION AT THE MID CHESHIRE FASHION SHOW...

For my end of fashion show I completed 4 outfits that were based on the concept of my choice. As you might well know I have been working on a combination of 7 garments and the Mid Cheshire fashion show was a way to showcase what I have worked on for the past 2 years. I was really pleased with how my garments turned out and feel like the models did my garments justice and the overall composition of the catwalk was a real success.

FINISHING OFF ALL MY GARMENTS...

Throughout this week I have been attempting to finish all of my garments ready for the fashion show. Yesterday I worked on my jacket, bodice and trousers and today I have completed one of my dresses and my coat. I feel at ease now. I didn't come across many problems and learnt another way how to do bias binding which I find suits my way of working the best. I also fitted my coat this morning and realised it is huge but that's the style of the kimono coat, so I didn't adapt it. I do feel like my collection has come together and can't wait to see all the models wearing my clothes on fashion show night!

2 FITTINGS TODAY...

Today I have fitted two models and fitted my jumpsuit, bodice, trousers and jacket. The trousers and bodice fit the model really well and so does the jacket but the style of the jacket makes it look better than it is. This outfit will look so much better when heels are on and her legs are extended as it will hold the outfit much better and make the model fill it.

I haven't had to alter much on my garments so far and now have completed the jumpsuit. I had to put the zip in,attach bias binding, turn up the hem and sew in poppers in order to complete the jumpsuit.
